“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.  You will know them by their fruits.” – Jesus (Matthew 7:15-16)

Young liberals think old sayings are obsolete knowledge.  After all, we live in an advanced age of enlightenment with advanced knowledge that primitives wouldn’t understand.  Obviously their outdated beliefs do not apply to us.

But while technology and knowledge have advanced, human nature remains the same.  People of today have the same concerns, deal with the same problems in human interaction, and act in the same petty ways as people did two thousand years ago.  The idea that Satan is a slobbering beast that delights in pain is wrong.  He is the Father of Lies and Prince of Deception, the most beautiful of the Archangels who convinced a third of the Heavenly Host to follow him and abandon the Glory of God.

While the example Jesus uses is meant for people of another time and another culture, the concept is as applicable and important to the honest young people of today’s America as it was then.  If we rephrase the words in modern parlance, the meaning suddenly becomes clear along with the realization of the truth and importance of this warning.  A warning that honest young people who may yet be naïve had best take to heart lest they are led to ruin.

“Beware of conmen and lying teachers who pretend to be your friend but are actually lying thieves attempting to mislead and deceive you.  You will know them by the results of following their instructions that will lead to your loss.”

Even though this saying is two thousand years old it is every bit as important today as it was then.  People who believe in their own infallibility, especially the young who have not yet been taken in by a con, fall for the deceptions of lying thieves easily.  From tall tales of a buddy’s best fishing story to the promise of an investor with a sure thing, this series of young liberal wisdom is to help those who, like this author, start out in life morally honest but naïvely ignorant of the lies people tell.

People have a million reasons to mislead others, but when you boil all of their motives down, just as you can with all the reasons people fight, the very basest desire in the human heart is the culprit – greed.  The first false truth that a young liberal is taught is that “money is the root of all evil,” which means anyone with money is evil, and this is a false teaching.  The truth is that it is the “love of money is the root of all evil,” meaning greed, and that is where a young liberal can begin to find wisdom in that what he thought he knew to be true was wrong.

The reason that half of the people who are liberal when they are young become conservative as they grow older is that young people have not yet learned all there is to know about morality.  Liberals see morality not as black and white, but as gray.  Black and white morals is a determination of what is right and wrong and there are millions of things that the young do not yet know why they are right or wrong, so they are lost in the gray area in their ignorance.

Ignorance, they think is a synonym for stupidity, and not being stupid they believe themselves not to be ignorant.  Yet ignorance has nothing to do with stupidity.  Ignorance is merely a lack of knowledge that can easily be overcome by learning, while stupidity is the inability to learn.

When we are teenagers we think we know everything.  As one who has an IQ of 140, I absorbed knowledge like a sponge and by the time I was fourteen I thought I knew it all.  It wasn’t till I was twenty before I started to realize how little I actually knew, and that realization grew over time, and with a little prodding from older, wiser men, till I realized I knew very little, and that the average person with their average IQ and average pursuit of knowledge was about as smart as the village idiot.

And as the years passed I found there were plenty of village idiots who knew more about something than I did.  I also came to realize that honesty was in about as short supply as knowledge and rational thinking.  Having studied politics for the last ten years I have come to know that the division between liberalism and conservatism is founded on the combination of honesty and knowledge so that I could formulate this truth:

Having studied history my whole life and watching young liberals of today believe in Barack Obama and the Democrats, I hearken back to my own youth when I believed what I was told by the media and voted for Jimmy Carter against Ronald Reagan.  Now, being able to look back over all of history, to review the facts and what was said by both sides, I see the error of believing what I was told without examining all of the evidence, and having a strong basis in morality before coming to a conclusion.  This is the wisdom that comes with age and this is what I wish to impart to the young people of today who are following a man on the road to ruin.
